Cuban performance artist Tania Bruguera, who is living in Queens this year as part of her project exploring “Useful Art,” made a copy of Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain, created in 1917, and restored it to its original purpose–as a urinal, installing it in a men’s room at the Queens Museum of Art. “I crochet everything that enters my space,” says Olek. That means documents, sculptures, trees, bikes, cars, entire rooms, and even people. The Polish-born, New York-based artist crochets room-size installations, costumes for dance companies, wearable sculpture–and objects on the street including buildings, windows, walls, and benches.
