Mista Oh! has once again teamed up with The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy for another really cool project to get Brooklyn’s teenagers involved in the spirit of community service while learning about Brooklyn’s ecology and New York’s estuary system.

Check out the 2009 Community Service Club with NY Cares the NYC Water and Soil Conservation District, and the 2010 Community Service Club where Brooklyn’s high schoolers took the lead in teaching the 4th graders of PS 499 about Brooklyn’s industrial and Maritime history.

The 2011 project will bring artist/environmentalist Nim Lee and friends out to Coney Island to help Restart High School students with their Brooklyn College Science Fair project. The project will meet for 6-8 sessions – starting with a visit to the NY Aquarium where students learned a bit about the world of local marine invertebrates, dissected squid, viewed and handled several species, and engaged in laboratory microscope work.

The project will continue with in a series of and out-of classroom activities to learn about The Cove Between the Bridges curriculum and to develop a poster showing comparisons of water samples and marine life between Coney Island and Brooklyn Bridge Park.
