Tyger Tyger, Burning Bright – new work from Thomas Woodruff, now thru Feb. 4 at PPOW

Thomas Woodruff, Tiger Variation, Choleric, 2010-11

(from let my people show…)

Thomas Woodruff, Tiger Variation, Choleric, 2010-11. From the artist’s upcoming show at P.P.O.W., “The Four Temperament Variations,” inspired by the theories of Hippocrates that the body is controlled by four different, mysterious, colored fluids: Sanguinic, Choleric, Melancholic, and Phlegmaticatic.

Along with this Blakean tiger, the show features beasts of Woodruff’s own imagination, including the “quadricorn” and the “batterfly,” infused with the DNA from anime, steampunk, and body modification culture.

The show runs from January 5- February 4, 2012
Opening Reception: Thursday, January 5, 6-8pm

PPOW —  535 West 22nd Street, 3rd Floor
